Should Family Portraits Be Short?

When it comes to family portraits on your wedding day, the goal is to keep them as efficient as possible while still capturing the important people in your life.

Family photos are incredibly meaningful because it’s one of the rare moments when everyone is together, dressed up, and celebrating in the same place. But at the same time, you don’t want this part of the day to take over the timeline.

The best approach is planning ahead. Creating a simple list of the family combinations you want allows everything to move quickly and smoothly.

Typically, about 30 minutes is enough time to capture all the key family groupings without feeling rushed. In many cases, there’s even a little extra time for a few additional variations.

The key is striking the right balance. Family portraits should be intentional and meaningful, but they should also leave plenty of room for you to enjoy the rest of your wedding day.
