Is a Shot List Helpful or Limiting?

A lot of couples wonder if they should give their photographer a detailed shot list for their wedding day.

The truth is that listing every photo you expect throughout the day can actually be limiting. Experienced photographers already know the key moments to capture and are constantly watching for meaningful interactions and candid moments.

Where a shot list can be helpful is when it includes things that are unique to you.

For example, you might want to include special traditions, meaningful details, or moments that are specific to your wedding day, such as reading letters to each other or doing a first look with a parent.

The one list that is always helpful, however, is your family portrait list. Having those group combinations written down helps keep that portion of the day organized and efficient.

Instead of trying to list every possible photo, focus on the moments that are personal and unique to your story.
