Should You Prioritize Photo Or Video?
If you’re trying to decide whether to prioritize wedding photography or video, my answer is usually pretty simple: start with photo.
That’s because photography is typically the foundation of how the day is documented.
Your photographer is often the person helping direct portraits, guide the timeline, and make sure key moments are happening in a way that feels smooth and intentional. In a lot of ways, the photographer becomes one of the people helping lead the flow of the day.
Video is incredibly valuable too, and I always recommend including it if it fits your priorities and budget. It captures movement, sound, emotion, and atmosphere in a way that photos cannot.
But if you’re deciding which one is the true must-have, photography usually comes first.
A lot of the structure of the wedding day revolves around portraits, family photos, and the visual moments your photographer is helping create and document. Video often has the advantage of being able to capture things as they happen alongside that.
So if you’re choosing where to prioritize first, I would almost always say photography. Then, if possible, add video as something that complements it beautifully.
Both are valuable. But for most couples, photo is the starting point.
