Do You Need An Engagement Session?
A lot of couples look at an engagement session and think of it as simply getting photos before the wedding.
And if that’s the only way you look at it, you might feel like you don’t really need one.
But in my opinion, engagement sessions offer a lot more value than people often realize.
For one, it gives you a chance to get comfortable with the photographer who will be with you for most of your wedding day. It helps us get a feel for what you like, what feels natural to you, and how you interact together in front of the camera.
It also gives us something your wedding day usually doesn’t: time and flexibility.
On a wedding day, there are a lot of moving parts. The location, season, weather, and timeline are mostly locked in. An engagement session gives you much more control. You can choose a location that feels meaningful, pick a different season or vibe than your wedding day, and take the time to create portraits without feeling rushed.
That’s a big reason why engagement sessions are included in many of my packages. They are not just extra photos — they’re an extension of your overall story.
They also give you images you can use for save-the-dates, framed prints, your wedding website, or simply to remember this season of life before the wedding day arrives.
So no, technically you may not need an engagement session. But if you want more comfort, more variety, and more meaningful photos during this stage of your life, it is absolutely worth doing.
