Style
I love cookies, but when it comes to style nobody wants cookie cutter. There are so many talented photographers and videographers out there it can be overwhelming to decide which one is the perfect fit. Every professional has a different style, sometimes looking around for inspiration on what you might like is helpful before even reaching out to a potential vendor.
What do you like?
Okay, so this one can be tricky. I mean, not everyone knows what they are looking for when it comes to the “style” of a photographer. Instagram and Pinterest are helpful tools for sure. If you do see a few things you like you can always save them for later and search more specifically for key words that correspond with the photos that have captured your attention.
But, there are a few different things when it comes to style. For example, do you like the way the photos are edited? Is it light and airy, dark and moody or something in between? Is it the way the subjects are posed? Is it formal and traditional or is it more candid and in the moment? What about the professional’s style of conduct!? Are they decisive and on top of things or are they able to get what they need in a way that is more laid back?
Narrow it down
I’m sorry if that was a lot! Paying attention to those kinds of details will help you hire “the photographer that blew you away and made you cry tears of joy” and avoid the guy who was just “pretty good”.
There are even wedding directory tools that can help you narrow down the photographer/videographer you’re looking for by style, not just price and location.
If you’re looking on instagram, check out specific hashtags to find a local professional that you might like and go from there. Doesn’t hurt to message someone if you appreciate their style of work to get more information.
Make sure you like their “personality” style
Some of us need that ball of energy on their wedding day, hyping us up through prep. Some couples prefer a more positive vibes, go with the flow type of professional. This is just as much preference as wanting a photojournalistic approach as opposed to a classic, traditional style. My advice, just spend some time really talking over the phone, virtual meeting or in person with a few different pros that have a similar style of editing and posing. Just keep in mind, these are the photos you’ll have forever but you also have to spend the whole day with the person that took them.
I hope that was helpful! If you like my style of work, feel free to chat with me to see if we’re future best friends too!
